What is the source of so much blowback?
Most leaders point to the same familiar culprits: greed, bias, power, privilege, supremacy, injustice, etc.
But those are not causes—they’re symptoms.
The real reason is far simpler and far more costly:
You’re trying to drive change without a model of how social systems actually work.
Based on the quote above and others like it, we interviewed hundreds of CEOs, executives, organizers, activists, and community leaders and asked one foundational question:
“What framework do you use to understand societal dynamics and predict behavior?”
Not one person had an answer.
They could describe issues in detail.
They could cite history.
They could articulate grievances.
They could list tactics—protests, policies, campaigns, pressure, and voting.
But they could not describe the foundational mechanics of societal systems.
The result?
Initiatives became fragmented, reactive, and predictably destabilized.
DEI is a perfect example—we warned years ago that without a systems model, initiatives would face rising opposition and be strategically undermined.
That is precisely what has happened.
